BioMarin will pay $275 million upfront, plus up to $215 million in development and regulatory milestone payments, to acquire Alesta Therapeutics and its lead clinical-stage asset ALE1. ALE1 is an orally active small molecule in an ongoing Phase 1/2a trial for hypophosphatasia, a rare genetic bone disease, and could become the first oral therapy targeting the disease metabolite PPi. The transaction is expected to close this quarter, funded with cash on hand, and BioMarin expects a modestly dilutive impact on 2026 financial results excluding the upfront consideration.
