U.S . KEEPS 100 % TARIFF ON COVERED EVS FROM CHINA DURING TRADE REVIEW
U.S. maintains 100% tariff on covered Chinese EVs during trade review.
Context
What happened: The United States is keeping a 100% additional tariff on covered electric vehicles from China as a second four-year trade review proceeds. USTR confirmed in an Oct. 7, 2026 notice that its China tariff actions continue in modified form.
Key numbers: 100% rate on covered EVs from China, up from 25% on Sept. 27, 2024.
Why it matters: The duty preserves a steep cost barrier for importers but does not ban the vehicles. USTR said the higher rate was meant to encourage sourcing outside China and investment in U.S. EV production.
